In 1850, Vivien Brillet, representing the seventh generation, inaugurated the trading house, building a distillery and cellars from scratch. This marked the beginning of the rise of Maison Brillet, which Raymond and his son Jean developed in the early 1920s, creating their own brand of Cognac, in Petite and Grande Champagne (the two premier cru regions of Cognac) and Pineau des Charentes.
